It was my first time filming Hyun-ah. She is currently one of the representative sexy icons of Korea.
After shooting the first take, I immediately knew what kind of lens to shoot her. Her intense and chic facial expressions and performance was that I should shoot her vividly by narrowing the distance between the camera and her.
So I mainly used short-focus-lens compared to other films I shot. I used 18mm or 20mm lens and 35mm in the case of tight size when shot the performance sequence.
The director said me that this film would need blendly color and a steady camera walk.
I thought needed Jimmy-Jib for this film that the set structure and her lively and dynamic performance, but the project was not budgeted enough.
The Director said "Wouldn't it be nice to use equipment like Mini-Jib?', and I agreed. As a result, the combination of Mini-Jib and Dolly was successful, and we were able to successfully finish shooting in the set space and time allowed.
In addition, I needed more than 90 to 180 degrees of Dutch-Head, so I used Cartoni Total-Dutch-Head (3-Axis). When it couldn't be put on the Mini-Jib, I did twist and fix the sliding-Plate and base-Plated angles of the camera, which can have a similar effect as Dutch-Head when Tilt-up or Tilt-down.
Also, some sequence were shot with Hand-Held to express her performance more naturally and vividly.
There are so many kinds of grip equipment these days. However, we cannot use such equipment on all projects because of budget constraints, space and time limitations. But just because we don't use such equipment doesn't mean we won't be able to shoot. Rather, I think basic grip equipment can produce quality images that are good enough.
