The appeal of music videos unlike advertising
The genre I first shot as a cinematographer 12 years ago was music video. I'm shooting both ads and music videos now, but until about six or seven years ago, I worked mainly on music videos. For me, advertising and music videos are both attractive. Of course, the they have different attract. Especially, a film like this music video has charm that can’t be felt in advertisement.
When the director asked to work with me this music video for the first time, he told me it would be a really enjoyable job, which was true. The client was totally trusting the director, and the director had confidence in me. So we were able to make this while enjoying the work.
I used varied cameras and lenses when I shot this music video. Basically, Alexa Mini was used as main camera and infrared sequence were taken using Panasonic EVA-1 with the infrared-filter 72. In additional, Sony A7sII and Gopro Hero 7 were used as sub-cameras.
I mainly used one of my favorite lenses, KOWA Anamorphic lens. I have said before that its look is vintage and special and is very useful for gimbal equipment and hand-held filming because it is light and small among anamorphic lenses.
I am very attached to this music video because I think it can show a different mise-en-scene and sequences than the existing Korean idol music video.
